Panel No.3 - 1888-1938 Federation

During this period Australia became a Nation, the six colonies were formed into a Federation, known as 'The Commonwealth of Australia', proud to be part of the British Empire.
The seal of the Municipality of Molong stands out on the skyline. Less native timber, Packham's Pears are flowering in the orchard (Packham's Pears were propagated by Charles Henry Packham on his Molong property) where George conducted beekeeping as a hobby.
H. Jaye Bootmakers' shop was formally 'The Christian Army Hall', next door was Miss Laura Jaye, local florist and photographer.
In 1881 a simple Town Hall was built by Mr. J. Hull. The facade was added by the Prideaux brothers in 1923. One room being the propertyof the R.S.L. later rented by the Council. The two bronze plaques either side of the entrance commemorates on one side those who served in World War I -1914 to 1918, on the other, those who stayed home, 'wives, mothers and others'. Wbilst over this entrance a simple plaque to honour all who served in World War 11 - 19391945.
In 1884 five standard Gaslights were placed at intersections. Hitching posts have been added, a reminder of other days.
The soldier wears the uniform of the N. S.W. Mounted Rifles. No. 1 Company was raised half at Bathurst and half at Molong. In 1897 ninety men of the N.S.W. Mounted Rifles paraded through the streets of London with Queen Victoria for her Diamond Jubilee, six of these men came from Molong, their mounts supplied by Major Claude Smith of Nandillyan Heights. The dark green of the uniforms is known as Riffle green in the Australian Army.
The Cottage Hospital as it appeared in the Town and Country Journal, 25th January 1890. The Foundation Stone had been laid in 1881 by Sir Henry Parkes. The General Store, Bank Street, pink build- ing, pre-war, housed the local Billiard Saloon.
A 1926 Bridal car, with ribbons attached is attempting to get to the church on time, whilst the steam locomotive with attended carriages are crossing the bridge over the Molong creek.
